Fitness: moderate, with muddy paths, short steep sections and walks of around 20–30 minutes

This four-day small-group photography trip is based in the Hope Valley and timed for late-autumn colour. We’ll work with the conditions rather than follow a rigid list, using the area’s gorges, historic quarries, woodland and open landscapes to build a varied set of images.

Who this trip is for

This is best suited to photographers with a basic understanding of aperture, shutter speed and ISO. You do not need to be an expert: I’ll help with composition, exposure, filters, long exposures and making practical decisions as the light and weather change.

How the trip runs

We’ll meet around midday on Monday, check in and head out for our first afternoon and sunset shoot. Tuesday and Wednesday are full workshop days, planned around the weather and the best available light. Thursday gives us a final day of photography before the trip finishes after the last shoot.

The pace is relaxed, but we’ll make the most of the short November days. Exact locations are chosen around light, weather, access and safety.

Accommodation and travel

Accommodation is included, with each guest having a private room. A light breakfast of cereal, toast, tea, coffee and orange juice is provided. Lunches, evening meals, snacks and alcoholic drinks are not included.

Transport between workshop locations is provided in my van, with fuel included. You can meet us in the Peak District, or use the contact page to ask about travelling from Norwich.

Booking and payment

Choose a single room or the twin-room option for two people sharing. Full payment is available through the website now.

The online £275-per-person deposit option will become available on 4 October 2026, one year before the balance is due. The remaining balance will then be charged automatically to the same card on 4 October 2027, exactly 28 days before the trip starts.

What to bring

Bring a DSLR or mirrorless camera, spare batteries and memory cards, a useful range of lenses, a sturdy tripod, lens-cleaning kit, warm waterproof clothing and sturdy footwear. Filters are useful, but I have a spare set available to borrow.

If you are not fully familiar with your camera, bring the manual or download it to your phone before travelling. Do not rely on having an internet connection while we are out.

Weather, access and safety

November in the Peak District can mean rain, wind, mud and rapidly changing light. Some locations include unmade paths, short steep gradients and exposed viewpoints. Suitable waterproof clothing and grippy footwear are essential. Locations will be adjusted when conditions require it, and safety always comes before a photograph.
