Personalised sessions tailored to your needs, perfect for photographers of all levels
A practical introduction to using your camera
This private Norfolk session is for beginners who want to move beyond automatic mode and understand what their camera is doing. We will work slowly and practically, using your own camera and real locations rather than trying to cover every piece of photographic theory at once. You can book for yourself, come with a friend, or arrange a private group of up to five people.
At a glance
• Duration: 5 hours.
• Location: An agreed Norfolk route suited to your experience, mobility and the weather. We normally aim to work at two locations during the session, unless you would prefer a different pace or format.
• Availability: Sessions can be arranged on any day of the week, with the date agreed after booking. Please allow around four to six weeks where possible.
• Experience: Designed for beginners and people returning to photography.
• Group options: One person, two people, or a private group of up to five.
What we can work on
• What aperture, shutter speed and ISO change in a photograph.
• Reading the camera's light meter and leaving automatic mode when useful.
• Autofocus, manual focus and choosing a suitable focus point.
• Simple, repeatable approaches to composition.
• Working with natural light and recognising when it changes.
• Choosing lenses and settings without overcomplicating the decision.
• Reviewing the photographs you make and understanding what to try next.
What to bring
Bring your camera, its manual if you have it, charged batteries, memory cards, suitable lenses, weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy footwear, food and drink, and a way to pay for parking if required. I can lend you a sturdy tripod, so please ask if you do not own one.
If the manual is not already on your phone, download an offline copy before the day. Some of the locations have weak or no mobile signal, so do not rely on being able to look it up online during the session.
How booking works
Choose the attendee option and book online. After payment, email info@dibsphotography.com so we can agree a suitable date, location and equipment. I will send the final meeting point, timing and practical details two to three days before the workshop.
Please review the current booking and cancellation terms at https://www.dibsphotography.com/workshop-information before booking.
If you are unsure whether this is the right workshop for you, email me before purchasing.
Bespoke workshops
If you would like beginner tuition at a particular place or on another subject, I can put together a bespoke workshop in Norfolk or further afield in the UK. Email info@dibsphotography.com with the location, number of people and what you would like to learn, and I will put together a suitable package and price. The advertised workshop prices cover locations in Norfolk. Travel and, where needed, accommodation for workshops farther afield are quoted separately in advance.
