Norfolk Coast and Broads Residential Photography Workshop

Norfolk coast and Broads in one winter trip

After more than a decade of running photography workshops in Norfolk, one request has come up again and again: can we photograph both the coast and the Broads in the same trip? This winter residential brings the two together, with sunrise shoots along the east coast, sunset sessions around the Broads, and proper time between locations for editing, image review and fine-art printing.

We’ll be based in a private house around Caister and Great Yarmouth. That keeps us close to a wide choice of coastal subjects while giving us straightforward access to the Broads and its windmills.

Likely locations

Possible coastal locations include Lowestoft’s old jetty, Caister’s sea defences, Sea Palling and quieter stretches of the Norfolk and Suffolk coast. Evening sessions may take us to windmills and waterside locations around the Broads, with one coastal sunset included when the conditions suit it.

The exact locations and running order will be chosen around the weather, tides, access and the best available light. This is a working landscape photography workshop rather than a fixed sightseeing itinerary.

How the week will work

Monday: arrive and settle into the accommodation, followed by an introductory session and our first sunset shoot.

Tuesday to Friday: sunrise photography on the coast, a relaxed break for breakfast and rest, then guided editing, image review or printing before heading out again for the evening light.

Saturday: a final sunrise if conditions make it worthwhile, followed by breakfast and a closing image-review and printing session. We’ll finish around lunchtime.

The winter days make this rhythm practical. You will still have time to warm up, eat and rest rather than being expected to shoot continuously from dawn until dusk.

From capture to print with PermaJet

This is more than a location tour. We’ll take selected photographs through the complete process from capture to finished print.

I’ll help you refine your raw files, make considered editing decisions, prepare images for print and compare how photographs respond to different paper surfaces. As a PermaJet ambassador, I’ll have a selection of PermaJet photographic and fine-art papers available so you can see how paper choice changes an image’s character.

Accommodation and food

Five nights’ accommodation are included, with each guest having a private bedroom. Breakfasts, packed lunches, evening meals, tea, coffee, water and planned snacks are included. Meals will be arranged around the photography schedule using the accommodation and local cafés, pubs or other food providers. One local pub meal is planned when the itinerary and opening hours allow. Alcoholic drinks are not included.

I’ll contact everyone before the trip to collect dietary requirements. Please contact me before booking if you have a severe allergy or a requirement that may need specialist preparation, so I can confirm what can be accommodated safely.

Getting there and transport

Collection and return to Norwich airport or train station can be arranged, and transport between the scheduled workshop locations and fuel are included in my five-seat van. The van has 240V mains power for charging camera and drone batteries, plus a camping stove for tea and coffee between shoots.

Who this workshop is for

The workshop is suitable for a range of experience levels. Tuition is adapted to the individual, whether you want help becoming more confident with the camera, improving composition and long exposures, developing a more consistent editing workflow or learning how to prepare photographs for print.

Some locations involve sand, shingle, uneven ground and cold winter conditions. We’ll choose alternatives where possible, but please contact me before booking if you have any access or mobility concerns.

What to bring

Bring your camera, lenses, a sturdy tripod, spare batteries, memory cards and any filters you already use. A laptop with your preferred editing software is strongly recommended for the editing and printing sessions.

If you are not completely familiar with your camera, bring the manual or download it to your phone before travelling. Some locations have unreliable mobile coverage, so please do not rely on being able to access it online.

Weather and flexibility

Locations and timings may change around the weather, tides, access and the best available light. Suitable warm, waterproof clothing and sturdy footwear are essential, and safety always comes first.

About Dibs

I am a full-time photographer based in Norfolk. I have worked commercially since 2011, hold a BA and a Master’s degree in Photography, and have been running photography workshops since 2013. My workshops are practical and relaxed, with small groups, no egos and plenty of individual help.

The price is £1,350 per person, including five nights’ accommodation in a private bedroom, the planned meals and transport between scheduled workshop locations. A £350 deposit secures your place, with the remaining £1,000 due on 12 November 2026, 60 days before the trip starts. There are only four places.
