Photograph the Norfolk Broads before a coastal sunset

Start among the waterways, reed beds, boats and windmills of the Norfolk Broads, then travel to the coast to photograph the final light and sunset over a very different landscape.

The route is planned around the conditions rather than fixed regardless of the weather. Exact locations will be selected nearer the day using the forecast, light, tides and access, giving us the best chance of productive photography throughout the afternoon.

Who this workshop is for

All abilities are welcome. Whether you are learning to take control of your camera or already comfortable with manual settings, the small group allows time for individual help and more advanced creative discussion.

• Broads waterways, reed beds, boats and windmills

• Reflections, texture and changing winter light

• Norfolk coastal scenery and moving water

• Sunset and the transition into dusk

What you will learn

• Camera settings for varied landscape subjects and light

• Composition across open Broads and coastal locations

• Using filters and long exposure where appropriate

• Responding to changing weather rather than relying on one planned picture

How the workshop works

We will spend the first part of the afternoon in the Norfolk Broads before travelling to the coast for sunset. You will receive approximately five hours of practical tuition, with time to work independently as well as receive one-to-one guidance.

Travel between locations

You will need your own vehicle to reach the meeting point and travel between locations. Travel and parking costs are not included. The final route and meeting information will be emailed before the workshop.

What to bring

• Your camera, charged batteries and memory cards

• A selection of landscape lenses

• A sturdy tripod

• Neutral-density and graduated filters if you have them

• Warm, waterproof clothing and suitable footwear

• A lens cloth and weather protection for your equipment

Weather and safety

The route may change if the forecast, tides or access make an alternative location more productive or safer. Please prepare for winter conditions and follow any safety guidance given at each location.

About your guide

I am Dibs McCallum, a commercial photographer since 2011 with a Master's degree in Photography. I will help you understand the decisions behind each photograph while giving you space to develop your own approach to the Norfolk landscape.
