Join me for a photography workshop exploring the beautiful Moray Coast in Scotland, with the potential to also head inland towards the Cairngorms, Dava Moor and other surrounding areas of interest.

This is a wonderfully varied part of Scotland, with rugged coastline, harbours, sea stacks, beaches, lighthouses, woodland, open moorland, mountain views and big skies. It’s a brilliant location for building a varied set of landscape and coastal images over a few days.

Accommodation:

Stay in well-located accommodation with private rooms for each attendee. The accommodation will be chosen to give us good access to the Moray Coast, while also keeping us within reach of the Cairngorm mountain area, Dava Moor and other surrounding locations.

A light breakfast will be provided each morning, including basic cereals, toast, orange juice, coffee and hot drinks.

Lunches, dinners, snacks and meals out are not included in the workshop price.

On Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings, we’ll have the option to eat back at the accommodation to help keep things relaxed and keep costs down. If the group would prefer to eat out on any of those evenings, that’s absolutely fine too, and we can decide as we go.

Photography Opportunities:

The Moray Coast offers a fantastic mix of seascape, landscape and characterful coastal locations. During the workshop we’ll explore a range of places along the coastline, with possible subjects including beaches, harbours, cliffs, sea stacks, lighthouses and smaller coastal details.

Depending on weather, access and conditions, we may also head inland towards the Cairngorm mountain area, Dava Moor and other nearby locations. This gives us the chance to photograph a wider mix of scenery, from coastal light and sea views to moorland, woodland, rivers, mountain backdrops and open Scottish landscapes.

March can be a brilliant time for this part of Scotland, with quieter locations, low light, changeable conditions and plenty of atmosphere. As always, the exact locations will be chosen around the weather, light, wind direction, road conditions and safety.

Workshop Itinerary:

Monday:

  • Early afternoon Meet and Greet

  • Check in at the accommodation

  • Sunset shoot

  • Dinner outing or food stop depending on timing

Tuesday - Friday:

  • Sunrise shoot

  • Return for breakfast or stop for breakfast/lunch depending on location and conditions

  • Photography through the day until sunset

  • Evening meal option at the accommodation

Saturday:

  • Sunrise shoot

  • Check out of the accommodation

  • Depart home after the sunrise shoot

The exact locations may change depending on weather, light, access and conditions. The aim is always to put the group in the best places at the best times, rather than rigidly sticking to a fixed plan if conditions are better elsewhere.

Transport:

Transport is available from Norwich to the accommodation and back again at the end of the workshop.

During the main workshop days, Tuesday to Friday, seats will be available in my van for travel between the accommodation and photography locations. Fuel for workshop travel is included, so you won’t need to drive between locations unless you prefer to use your own vehicle.

If you are making your own way to the accommodation, you’re still welcome to travel with the group during the workshop days.

Essential Photography Kit:

  • DSLR/CSC with batteries and memory cards

  • Spare batteries and memory cards
