Late-winter Coastal Long Exposure | Norfolk | 6 March 2027

Late-winter Coastal Long Exposure — Norfolk

Give yourself five hours to slow down, look carefully and work with the Norfolk coast. I’ll help you use composition, filters and exposure choices to make photographs with intention, whether you prefer a trace of movement or a much longer exposure. With no more than five photographers, there is time to work through your own questions at the camera.

Date: Saturday 6 March 2027
Time: 12:30–17:30
Duration: 5 hours, including briefing, practice, breaks and review
Group: maximum five paying photographers
Price: £95 per person
Location: Norfolk - Location to be confirmed via email a few days before the workshop

What we’ll photograph

We’ll look at how the shoreline, foreground and horizon work together, and compare exposures rather than reach for the strongest filter automatically. The session will offer plenty of opportunity to photograph a variety of water, coastal textures and man-made features, varying by each location. We’ll work with the conditions we find; a particular tide, sunset, calm sea or dramatic sky is absolutely never promised.

What you’ll learn

  • Build a composition around foreground, horizon and the direction of movement.

  • Choose shutter speed for the result you want, rather than simply making the longest exposure.

  • Use ND and graduated filters where useful, and check exposure and focus.

  • Keep a tripod stable and recognise movement, flare and water on the lens.

  • Adapt your approach as the light changes, with individual help.

How the session works

We'll start with a quick introduction before heading out to our first location, where we'll spend around two hours exploring different compositions, working with filters and experimenting with longer exposures.

After that, we'll move on to our second location, making the most of the changing light as we head towards sunset.

There'll be plenty of time for questions, trying different techniques and getting individual help throughout the afternoon.

Who it suits

Suitable for photographers who have started to explore beyond automatic settings and understand manual exposure, and who want more considered compositions and filter techniques. I’ll adapt the help to your camera and experience.

What’s included

Five hours of practical tuition, individual help and image review within the session.
Travel to the meeting point, parking, food and any personal equipment purchases are not included.
Please confirm any location-specific charges before booking.

What to bring

Bring a camera with manual controls, a sturdy tripod, your usual lenses, charged batteries, memory cards and any filters you already own. A remote release is useful, but the camera’s timer may be suitable. Wear warm, waterproof clothing and footwear appropriate to the confirmed route. Filter, tripod and camera loans have not been confirmed; ask before relying on borrowed equipment.

Weather, access and meeting point

The final location and timing will be chosen around safe access, tides and the available light. Strong wind, rough seas or other conditions may require an alternative plan. No particular tide, weather or sea state is guaranteed. Any cancellation or variation will follow the existing workshop terms.

Please contact me before booking if you would like to discuss whether the confirmed location will suit your access needs. We will discuss the practical route rather than assume all sites are accessible.

About your tutor

I’m Dibs, a Norfolk-based commercial photographer with a Master’s degree in Photography. I’ve worked commercially since 2011. My teaching is practical and personal: we’ll work through decisions at the camera, with room to ask questions and try things for yourself.

Booking information

Once you've booked and received your payment confirmation email, your place on the workshop is confirmed.

I'll then email you the full joining information, including the exact meeting point and any final instructions, two to three days before the workshop takes place.

If you're travelling from further away and need to arrange accommodation or plan your journey, please feel free to email me beforehand. I'll happily provide an approximate location so you can make your arrangements.

Please take a moment to read my workshop booking and cancellation information before booking.
