Assynt Landscape Photography Workshop

A week of landscape photography in Assynt
Join me for a week-long photography trip in the rugged Assynt region of the north-west Highlands. We’ll explore dramatic coastlines, mountain vistas, lochs, remote beaches, lighthouses and quieter locations away from the busiest areas.
The NC500 is usually calmer at this time of year, the midges have gone, and the changing autumn weather can produce superb light. The region also offers a chance of seeing the Northern Lights when weather and solar activity allow. Tuition will be adapted to the experience of the group.
Likely locations
Potential locations include Loch Assynt, Clachtoll Split Rock, Loch Stack, Faraid Head Stacks, Durness, Loch Bad a’ Ghaill, Stoer Lighthouse, the Old Man of Stoer and a selection of remote beaches and quieter viewpoints.
The exact locations and running order will be chosen around the weather, light, access and safety.
Accommodation and food
We’ll stay in a comfortable lochside house with private rooms, well placed for beaches, cliffs and mountain landscapes. On the first and final evenings we’ll have a pub meal together. On the other days we’ll prepare meals together, including packed lunches for our outings.
Breakfast options will range from cereal and toast to cooked dishes. I’ll send a menu before the trip so that breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks can be planned around the group’s preferences and dietary requirements.
Getting there and transport
Transport between workshop locations and fuel are included in my five-seat van. The van has 240V mains power for charging camera and drone batteries, plus a camping stove for tea and coffee between shoots.
Collection and drop-off in Inverness are available by prior arrangement.

Weather and flexibility
Some locations involve unpaved paths, uneven ground, exposed coast and working near cliffs. Suitable all-weather clothing and sturdy footwear are essential. Locations and timings may be adjusted to make the best of the conditions and keep the group safe.

I am a full-time photographer based in Norfolk. I have worked commercially since 2011, hold a BA and a Master’s degree in Photography, and have been running photography workshops since 2013. My workshops are practical and relaxed, with small groups, no egos and plenty of individual help.
