Long Exposure masterclass
East Anglia's Long Exposure photography masterclass.
Based on the Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex coastline this Landscape Photography One-2-One 5 hour session looks in-depth at how to use landscape filters for long exposure photography.
If you would like to attend this session but further afield than the East coast or if you would like this to be run for a club or group, then please get in contact to discuss this further.
What is long exposure photography?
Long exposure photography is when you take a photo over a prolonged period of time. It is an image that you cant take handheld if you want it to be sharp. By using long exposure it will create blur within the image. Traditionally it is used for water or clouds, or even to remove people from images. This effect is created by using what is called Neutral density filters that we attach to the front of our lens
The Long exposure Masterclass, is it for you?
For my own work I only use the market leading Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters, and I fully appreciate photography can be an expensive passion, so with this in mind, I will supply you with all the filters and adapters for you to try out on the session, this gives you the best opportunity to see exactly what you will get for your money should you then invest in a kit. But best of all, this is a great opportunity for you to see what type of filters you prefer for your style of photography, again things we will explore throughout the session.
This workshop is aimed at anybody who has some basic understanding of the manual controls on their DSLR/CSC camera, right through to people who know how to use their camera and just want to improve their photographic practice.
How do I teach The Long exposure Masterclass and what will you learn?
The day is filled with landscape photography tuition out on location in the East Anglian coast. Followed by a Cafe break where we will talk through what we have shot and how to approach editing it, you are welcome to bring along a laptop to edit a few images while we have a cuppa.
This is one student to one tutor session (unless you decide on the 2 people option, see below) You will get all the help that is needed to maximize your learning from the day.
The day will be solely tailored around your needs, so in brief: You will have somebody to show you what to look out for in creating those perfect images before you have even got the camera out of the camera bag, right through to advice and pointers to how to edit those shots
By the end of the session, for those with basic knowledge, you should have a full understanding of what the settings on your camera do and I hope to get you away from shooting automatic modes, You will have knowledge of what filters achieve what results, how to calculate exposures correctly. You will be taking control of your camera and the settings and letting the creativity start to flow.
- Reading your cameras light meter.
- Full understanding of Aperture, Shutter speed and ISO.
- Manual focusing.
- Metering Modes.
- Setting up your camera correctly for shooting long exposures.
- What ND filters are used for what effects.
- Calculating long exposure times correctly.
- Understanding of landscape compositions.
- Thoughts on editing images.
What experience do I have as a tutor?
All day while shooting we will be discussing the theory behind making work, what stands out and what sells, what makes a good image and how can we get that image we see into our cameras. This comes off the back of my many years of commercial photography experience and time spent studying photography as an art form.
You know you will be in good hands on the sessions with myself.
I spent over 4 years of teaching and writing workshops for all levels and ages of photographers for the countries biggest photographic retailer Wex Photo Video.
As one of the ambassadors for Formatt-Hitech filters, a UK based, yet one of the worlds largest landscape filter companies, they fully support me in my work and passing on the knowledge of photography as I meet their high standards of excellence through my sessions.
5 years studying landscape and architecture photography to Masters degree level with some of the best mentors and tutors the country has,
I have also picked up a few awards along the way and I have exhibited and been published worldwide, just check out my Shows and Awards page
